18
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st,
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Books on my shelves

I saw a blog post recently that showed a collection of books-to-read on a teacher's bookshelf. I think the teacher was in Taiwan or Korea, an Asian country, and had these books shipped to them. I thought it interesting that I had many of the same titles on my shelf, some that I've read, some I've yet to read, some, like the shelf, just gathering dust.

We didn't start the fire video

This is one of the most popular videos on TeacherTube. While I'm familiar with most of the images, I find myself trying to remember why certain news items and figures are noted. I guess I need to do my own research to remind myself of US History.

Here's one teacher's lesson on how she uses this song in the classroom ... would be great for combined history/language arts classrooms.

Personal care totes for crisis center

For Christmas in my husband's family, we aren't exchanging gifts this year. Instead, we brought gifts, mainly supplies, for the local crisis center. I made personal care totes to include several travel-size items such as lotion, deodorant and toothpaste, gathered into a tote I made from a hand towel. I made a casing at both ends of the towel, sewed the side seams and threaded two 45" shoelaces to close the top. They cost about $10 each with the items inside and turned out nice. I hope the people who need them during a crisis find some comfort with this small gift.
